If you ’ve seen the movie , then you sleep with the cameo would have made perfect sense .
- Warning : Spoilers ahead if you have not seenDeadpool & Wolverine * * * * * * *
Deadpool & Wolverineisn’t just one of the funnest andbest moviesof the year; it’s also one of the biggest. TheMCUfilm is expected to cross theone billion dollar gross markthis weekend.#
Of course, one of the big reasons fans couldn’t wait for this movie and are watching it over and over — aside from Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine finally teaming up with Deadpool — was because of all the cameos/crossovers the film promised from throughout all of the MCU.#
While there were a lot of false rumors and speculation about people set to appear in it, likeTaylor Swift as Dazzlerfor example, we just got confirmation of one that really could have happened: Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark.#
In a recent interview withIndieWire, the movie’s cowriters, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, revealed thatRyan Reynoldshad written a scene which Tony Stark was supposed to be in (alongside Jon Favreau’s Happy Hogan) in hopes of getting RDJ to do a cameo.#
Now, if you’ve seen the movie, then you know that would have been the scene early in the film, where Happy meets with Deadpool at theAvengersCompound when he tries to apply to become an Avenger. It’s also clear that this likely isn’t Happy’s office but actually Tony’s office (based on the mementos around the office).#
According to Reese and Wernick, Reynolds really hard-pressed Downey to appear — with RDJ even reading the scenes that had been written. They went on to say it was the only “no” they know of that Reynolds got from anyone about appearing inDeadpool & Wolverine.#
However, there was a good reason he turned it down. Reese and Wernick added that they didn’t know that behind-the-scenes, Downey had already accepted the role of Dr. Doom, saying, “He’s about to come back in this different character. So, to have him be Tony Stark? Knowing that Doctor Doom was coming on the heels of that? It just didn’t make sense.”#
The two writers also revealed another idea they had but never wrote into the script. Early on, they had the concept for a scene where Deadpool is in a room with all the Avengers, and they reject him as a member, which would lead home to dress “all the Avengers down in a way only Deadpool could do.”#
Alright, if you’ve seen the movie, I am curious to know: Do you think we really missed out on a perfect cameo from Tony? Or do you think the cameo with just Happy worked better for the film? I personally am torn. I would have loved it, especially since they were building up to it, but also, not having him and making him a big tease really worked as well.#
