Olivia Rodrigo’sGutsworld tour is still in full swing, and boy, has it been incredible so far. Not only is Olivia just soooo talented, but the dances, costumes, and sets are all just to die for.
And another thing that’s amazing about theGutstour? The surprise guests.
Over the course of theGutstour — whichstarted onFeb. 23, 2024, and ends on Oct. 22, 2024 — Olivia has brought out several surprise guests. They’ll essentially come onstage in the middle of the show to perform a song of theirs with Olivia.
Thesurprise guestson theGutstour have been, thus far:Sheryl Crow,Noah Kahan(my personal fave), Jewel,Lily Allen, and Tyler Childers.
And on Aug. 20 in Los Angeles, at her second-last U.S. date of the tour, she brought out yet another show-stopping guest. One she knew fans would love.
“I have a special surprise guest for you tonight. I’m so excited I’ve gotbutterfliesin my stomach,” Olivia began.
“I’ve known this next artist for about 4 years now, and 2 years ago, she actually opened for me at theSourtour in San Francisco,“she saidto the audience. “And I was so lucky to have her open for me for a lot of theGutsworld tour dates earlier this year.”
“I absolutely adore her,” she continued. “I think she is one of the most singular, inspiring, powerful artists I have ever had the pleasure of meeting.”
“And I’m so excited, because she’s gonna sing one of my favorite songs of all time with you tonight.” THE SUSPENSE WAS VERY REAL.
So it’s clear Olivia hyped up this artist a ton. And I’m happy to report that SHE DELIVERED ON THE HYPE. Because guess who the surprise guest was??? None other than the absolute legend,Chappell Roan!!!!
Chappell came onstage, gave Olivia a hug, and then told the audience, “We’re gonna sing a song and we’re gonna teach you a dance.” And they did — first, they taught the audience the iconic"HOT TO GO” dance, and then theysung the song together.
And I have to commend Olivia’s taste, because “Hot To Go!” by Chappell Roan is simply one of the best anthems of our time. And the audience knew it, too, screaming and dancing along with Olivia and Chappell the entire time. It was wholesome, beautiful, amazing… you get it.
And of course, everyone and their mother knows and adores Chappell Roan now. But it was Olivia who helped put her on the map, since it was shortly after Chappell’s time opening for theGutstour this year that she reeeeallypopped off.
So the fact that these two pop queens reunited onstage? Makes my heart feel whole again. Just look at them.
