“ What a perfect Oscar we could ’ve had with John Mulaney . ”
It sounds like the Academy is still searching for someone to host the Oscars in 2025.
On Monday, it was reported thatJimmy KimmelandJohn Mulaneyboth turned down offers to host next year’s ceremony, which will take place on March 2 and air on ABC.
As I’m sure you know, Jimmy has hosted the Oscars four times, leading the ceremonies in 2017, 2018, 2023, and 2024.
Meanwhile, John hosted the14th annual Governors Awardsin January and presented theaward for Best Sound at this year’s Oscars, prompting a lot of praise from viewers. The success of both gigs put him in prime position to potentially host the 2025Academy Awards, with fans online hailing him as the “perfect” candidate and the “obvious choice” for the job.
In light of all this, the reports that John turned down the gig have disappointed many movie lovers who hoped to see him take the reins on Hollywood’s biggest night.
As it stands, neither John nor Jimmy have publicly commented on the news. According toDeadline, Jimmy turned down the hosting gig earlier this summer before his annual hiatus fromJimmy Kimmel Live! The outlet also reported that John was holding out for Jimmy to “officially pass” before he ultimately declined the offer as well.
