Whatever you say , valet de chambre .

Here’s a story you probably didn’t expect to read today.

So, you know who this guy is. We’re all sick of hearing about him at this point, so we’ll try to keep everything that follows brief and to the point.

Perhaps you remember way back in 2019, when Trumpreferredto North Korean leader Kim Jong Un as “Rocket Man” at a NATO summit. It was a whole thing for a few days, but if you forgot, I don’t blame you — alothas happened since then, obviously.

The quip was an obvious reference to Elton John’s famous 1972 single “Rocket Man.” If you’ve never heard it — first of all,What?!?Second of all, you can hear it below:

So, in a recent interview withVariety, the legendary singer-songwriter addressed the incident for the first time — and his response was, uh, a little surprising.

“I laughed, I thought that was brilliant,” he remarked on how he reacted when he first heard the Trump-appointed nickname. “I just thought, ‘Good on you, Donald.’"

Elton went on to say that the former US president has “always been a fan of mine, and he’s been to my concerts many, many times.”

“So, I mean, I’ve always been friendly toward him, and I thank him for his support. When he did that, I just thought it was hilarious. It made me laugh.”

Now, I know what you’re thinking, and clearly, so did Elton. Because in a separate interview withVariety, he unspooled some of his thoughts on the upcoming US presidential election in general.

“I don’t go on stage and say to people, ‘You must vote for the Republicans, you must vote for the Democrats,’” he said. “It’s none of my business how they vote. They come to see me, and I’m so grateful they have.”

“I just want people to vote for things that are just, things that are important to people: the right to choose, the right to be who you are, and not let anybody else tell you who to be. And that goes all the way up to the Supreme Court.”

“I just hope that people make the right decision to see what the future is going to be. Is it going to be fire and brimstone … or are we going to have a much calmer, a much safer place? People can vote for who they like, but as far as I’m concerned, I love love.”

“And I’m a loving person, and I want that to come back to America. I feel it’s been lost in the last 12 years.”

All in all, another vague and noncommittal statement from a celebrity about things that actually matter. It is what it is!
