I won’t say it’s always a bad sign when a screenshotted Facebook post starts making rounds on Reddit or Twitter, but it’s usually not for wholesome reasons. So, when I saw this image of a mom lamenting about her daughter’s decision not to have children, I knew I was in for a ride. And I was right.
In the post, which has beensharedon Reddit, an anonymous mom wrote: “I’m Gen X, and I have a huge problem with how I am left carrying the weight for millennials.”
She continues, “For example. I’m 42 and my daughter is 22. She decided a while ago she does not want any kids. She’s actually getting a procedure for sterilization next year.”
" But those mortal take to come into our home for patrimonial or karmic reasons still need to be bear . So I ’m stuck birthing and raising two baby who should have been born to her but ca n’t be because she ’s too selfish to have kid . "
“We joke how my 1.5 year old girl — her sibling — is actually hers but she just didn’t want to have it. But deep down? It’s not a joke. If she wasn’t so selfish, I wouldn’t have a toddler daughter right now.”
As you can imagine, people quickly called out the mom for her patchy logic. First is the judgment she displays over her daughter’s personal decision not to have children.

" It seems that your Daughter is way fresh than you , the parent . I wish her well , good wellness , and lifelong felicity . "
Whether or not someone wishes to bring children into the world shouldn’t be determined by the guilt placed on them by theirmother.
" A deluded mother recollect she can force her daughter to support children and raise them for her entire life sentence because that ’s what a mother want . Mother can suck a duck , you do n’t get to prescribe what your children do , " userleeingram01said . " I know this from experience — you ’re better off without a controlling mother like that . Just , wow . Having kids because her daughter would n’t have children ? So those kids live ONLY EXIST because of their big babe . Talk about a fecked up family dynamic . "
After going viral on Reddit, the post wassharedon Twitter — unfortunately now called X — where it received even harsher treatment. People questioned how being childfree is selfish:

They called the mom “weird,” with one user writing, “My daughter’s 42 and chose not to have children. Uh, no…I never, ever thought about making more babies to ‘compensate.'”

And Gen X peers immediately distanced themselves from the mom by making it clear this is not a widely shared stance. “We’re like, please don’t have kids if you’re not flipping ready, even if that’s never,” this user wrote.

Obviously, there is no justification for this mom having more children and then trying to push them off onto her daughter. But this situation did make me wonder about other childfree people’s experiences with their parents. How did they react to the news?
