The pair met on set of their HBO showEuphoria, sparking dating rumors in January 2022. Dominicconfirmedtheir relationship the following May, but by the summer, they hadbroken up.
In a newepisodeof theCall Her Daddypodcast, Hunter admitted it was a “mutually agreed upon” decision to split. She said personal issues on both sides contributed to the breakup. She also said it was partly due to Dominic cheating on her.
“Part of why the relationship ended is I got cheated on for the first time,” Hunter shared. “That, like, fundamentally changed me as a person.”
When asked how she discovered the alleged infidelity, Hunter replied that she “kind of knew.” She also said she went through his phone. “Which I’m not proud of,” she added.
Hunter said, initially, after discovering his cheating, she felt insecure, thinking it had to do with her identity as a trans woman. In hindsight, she said she realizes, “Cheating has nothing to do with you, and it has everything to do with that person and whatever kind of pain they’re in or whatever they’re dealing with, but it’s so hard.”
Still, she said their breakup was “one of the cleaner breakups” she’s ever had, despite how “messy” the relationship was at times.
“It’s one of the cleaner breakups I’ve had,” she shared. “We both realized that this is not working, and we can’t do this. We got to go our own separate ways.”
“And it was so, so hard because we really loved each other. He’s a really special person, and I love his soul and everything.” Hunter said Dominic just “has a lot to work on.”
“And I also have a lot to work on,” she added. “I think that’s also why I’m in this era of, I gotta figure my shit out. We had a really good thing. But there were things in our own selves that had nothing to do with each other that kept coming up in the way of the relationship.”
Hunter also said that she had no intention of ever discussing their breakup publicly. “It makes me so nervous to talk about this stuff because I have no interest in letting the public into what happened and everything. I absolutely have no fucking desire because what happened with that was between me and him, and I wanna keep it and protect that,” she shared. “But at the same time, I’m like, I’m here to talk about my truth.”
