" Not me . "

Chappell Roan’s MTV VMA red carpet debut was dramatic, to say the least.

The 2024 VMAs mark the first major red carpet for the star, who turned it into a performance. She brought her own knight for the occasion, who rolled out a carpet for her:

Adding to the drama of this look, which we’re still waiting to verify the designer of, is a cloak and sword. Bonus points for the nails and tiny bag. “We have a theme, per us[ual],” she toldMTV, claiming that the carpet and cloak are hundreds of years old. “I’m not going to give too much away, I would say, take notes.”

However, a moment of tension erupted a few minutes into Chappell’s posing on the red carpet. For context, photographers were shouting her name and posing instructions from the moment she emerged.

While Chappell is adjusting her dress, a male photographer can then be heard saying loudly, “Shut the fuck up!” It is unclear at this point whether or not the comment was directed at Chappell or at someone else in the press area.

In response, Chappell then yelled, “You shut the fuck up!”

“No. Not me bitch,” she added.

Chappell is due to perform on the VMAs stage tonight.

UPDATE Chappell toldEntertainment Tonightafter the carpet, “This is quite overwhelming and quite scary. I think for someone who gets a lot of anxiety around people yelling at you, the carpet is horrifying. I yelled back. You don’t yell at me.”
