Recently, Chappell has been very outspoken about herboundariesandemotions, which received mixed reactions, but her VMA acceptance speech proves that she’s serious about her art and its intended audience.

Adorably reading an excerpt from her diary, Chappell started by thanking MTV, her record label, her team, her family, and friends.

She then dedicated the rest of her speech to all her LGBTQ+ fans, and I’m sure her heartfelt words resonated with every letter of the acronym.

“I dedicate this to all the drag artists who inspire me, and I dedicate this to queer and trans people who fuel pop,” she said. “To the gays who dedicate my songs to someone they love — or hate.”

“And for all the queer kids in the Midwest watching right now. I see you. I understand you because I’m one of you, and don’t ever let anyone tell you that you can’t be exactly who you want to be, bitch.”

Look, I’m not a kid anymore or even remotely from the Midwest, but my inner queer child is smiling from ear to ear, hearing someone speak those words into the universe. Bravo, Chappell.
